DE BESSARABIA A ENTE RÍOS

PEDRO BANCHIK

Pedro Banchik was born in Villaguay, a city in the province of Entre Ríos in Argentina.

He went to primary and secondary school in his home town and, after finishing his secondary studies at the age of 17, he was granted a scholarship in US, where he completed his High School studies.

Back in Argentina, he attended University in the city of Rosario, where he got a degree as a Chemical Engineer. Later, for work-related reasons he moved to Buenos Aires, where he has been living for 18 years.

With no intentions to become a film maker, in 2005 he made a documentary as a tribute to his family for the 100th anniversary of the arrival of his great-grandparents on his father´s side in Argentina.
In a while, this documentary went beyond the family boundaries and became widespread across Argentina and around the world.

In November 2006, it was screened at the International Jewish Film Festival in Buenos Aires, where it got the fourth place among 30 films from several countries.

As from that moment, the film has been screened in several Argentine institutions till these days.

Last February it was screened at the International Jewish Film Festival in Punta del Este, where it was given the Haim award to the most popular film. It has also been requested by several film festivals in many countries.

In addition, the film has been included in the historical archive of the Diaspora Museum in Tel Aviv. Now, it is being used in the seminars given in the museum and will be soon dubbed into Hebrew.
Moreover, it has been declared a film of cultural and legislative interest by the Argentine Senate and it has likewise been recognized by the Deputy Secretary of Culture of Entre Ríos.

On the basis of a deep “universalist” view, Pedro Banchik believes in the integration of peoples and cultures, through the enrichment caused by diversity and within a framework of integration of all human beings based on acceptance, tolerance, understanding and the mutual cooperation of the great universal family.
